Origins: War and Peace

Ever since coming out of retreat in 1985 Master Hsin Tao has been actively engaging in dialogues with other religious leaders in an effort to promote world peace and a global ethic. The Museum of World Religions is Ling Jiou Mountain’s practical contribution to peace. Following over a decade of arduous preparation, the museum finally opened on schedule in 2001, shortly after the 911 terrorist attacks shocked people of all backgrounds into acknowledging the extent and complexity of conflict in the modern world. As long as people remain mired in selfishness, Master Hsin Tao will continue on his mission to promote peace and understanding through interreligious dialogue.

With the advent of globalization we need to promote world peace for the sake of the well being of humanity and the whole planet. But peace is not something which can be brought about by one individual. The seeds of peace are sown through religion and dialogue, and sustained through education. We need to appeal to the followers of all religions to come together and realize the ideal of a “global family of love and peace.”

．Muslim-Buddhist dialogue
In 1993 Master Hsin Tao began preparations for the Museum of World Religions. The Museum’s opening in 2001 was marked by the coming together of representatives of different religions from 34 countries to give their support to the establishment of Religious Harmony Day. At the same time, preparations were made for the historic Muslim-Buddhist dialogue series, which to date has been held ten times in nine different cities.
