As part of LJM’s overall plan, the Religion, culture, and Education Park was designed as a place where contemporary people can practice Buddhism and cultivate wisdom. Because the three vehicles all return to the Buddha vehicle, and since all beings have the Buddha-nature, Master Hsin Tao established the Wisdom Institute as a way of promoting world peace, education, and the cultivation of all-round wisdom. Courses are designed to fit the needs of both disciples and the wider society, and include both traditional Buddhist practices and secular subjects.
Students: LJM lays disciples and all segments of society.
Educational objectives:
1. To introduce Buddhist teachings to all who are interested.
2. To impart systematic study of Buddhism based on Tsongkhapa’s Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path of Enlightenment (Tibetan Lam-rim Chen-mo).
3. To integrate theory and practice.
4. To provide life-long community education of body, mind, and spirit.
Educational style:
1. Respecting and upholding traditional teachings.
2. Transforming society.
3. Integration of theory and practice.
4. Practical guidance in the three Buddhist schools. Due to a wide variety of reasons, Buddhism developed into three independent schools: the Theravāda, the Mahāyāna, and the Vajrayāna. The Institute presents the profound teachings of all three schools in simple language, with a balance of theory and practice.
5. Most classes meet at the MWR and are designed to help participants manifest their inherent respect, tolerance, and universal love.
