While the increasing competition, pressure, and anxiety of the modern world are presenting Buddhism with unprecedented challenges, the opportunities to study the teachings of the Buddha are becoming scarce. In response, Master Hsin Tao has advocated education for a new era, as well as the revival of the “spirit of Nalanda.” He envisions an educational program which combines the traditional Buddhist emphasis on the systematic integration of theory and practice with the subjects of modern education as a way of bringing together the best aspects of East and West and cultivating secular and religious talent to meet the needs of the new century.
The master plan of the Ling Jiou Mountain Buddhist Society includes three educational institutes:
1) TheTriyāna Buddhist College aims to provide Buddhist missionaries and researchers with a global vision and a solid grounding in practice.
2) The Wisdom Heritage College is an interactive program that will join together lay disciple training and social education.
3) The University of World Religions is planned as an extension of the Museum which arises out of the aspiration to revive the renowned spirit of Nalanda in the modern era.
The University is designed to implement an educational system which integrates the teachings of the three main schools of Buddhism into higher education and research in order to cultivate high-quality, multi-cultural religious and professional talent, while acting as a modern seat for religious and peace studies.
