Born to ethnic Chinese parents in Upper Burma (now Myanmar), Master Hsin Tao came to Taiwan while still a boy. After founding his own monastery in Taiwan he has made it his mission to preserve Buddhist culture around the world, and in Myanmar his projects include medical treatment, education, cultural tourism, and sustainable agriculture.
Despite the great need, the current political situation has made it very difficult for international NGO’s to provide humanitarian assistance in Myanmar. Yet, in 2003 Master Hsin Tao’s Global Family of Love and Peace (GFLP) became the first international NGO to succeed in establishing an orphanage and school in Myanmar. By integrating Buddhist teachings with social service in providing such benefits as education, vocational training, and public medical treatment, the GFLP is helping orphans in Myanmar to gain the skills and knowledge they need in order to be independent, and eventually make a contribution to the ideal of a world family based on love and peace.

As a subsidiary of Ling Jiou Mountain, the main purpose of the GFLP is to provide assistance to orphans. Moreover, in cooperation with Myanmar’s Department for the Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana, and with Myanmar’s Monastic Education Department as the guiding organization, the GFLP provides assistance for the construction and maintenance of Buddhist academies. In all of its projects, the GFLP participates in the entire process, including establishing effective plans and policies, supervising their implementation, evaluating the results, and implementing changes as necessary. In addition to organizing workshops which provide members of cooperating organizations with training in a variety of related skills, the GFLP also prepares evaluations of each project, carries out fundraising work, and makes abundant use of a wide variety of local human resources. |
