Upon first hearing the name “Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva” (Guanyin), filled with both joy and sadness, enters the Buddhist path, and becomes a vegetarian. Following the custom of Burmese monks, gives visible expression to his determination by tattooing his arms and abdomen with the vows “May I awaken in gratitude for the kindness of Guanyin,” “I will never rest until Buddhahood is attained,” and “Liberating all beings by living in suchness.” |
